Hi, I´m new here. It´s actually my 80 year old mum who has been diagnosed with nodular RM in her hands. So I´m hoping to learn a little from other people experiences and share what we find to be useful from our own (as a family). At the moment though it´s a bit grim cos the drugs only seem to have adverse effects. I´ve had another form of arthritis myself for the last 20 years so I know people do fight against these diseases and that can make a difference. ThumpUp

Welcome Tim! I know you will get lots of friendship and helpful advice on here. Some sensible and some not so sensible i.e. our 'extreme ironing' group! BigGrin

As you say, not all meds suit people and the frustrating thing is, it takes so long for them to either take effect, or to get them out of your system when you react adversely.

I do hope you are able to help and advise your Mum - it is heartwarming when I read of a family member who is actively taking a part in the Rheumatoid Arthritis 'journey' and I take my hat off to you. Some families are not interested and do not want to know.Sad

Anyway, I hope you find NRAS helpful and that the friendship here will be a support to you.

Warmest wishes, Ann

Hi Tim,

You will certainly learn about RA from peoples experiences on this site, and as I've only just been diagnosed myself I have found it a great source of comfort. Your mum is so lucky to have such a caring son.

Take care Anne x

Hello!ThumpUp

Welcome to the forum Tim. What a refreshing change to hear from someone who is posting as a family member. Sorry to hear that your Mum has problems with nodular arthritis and suitable medication has not yet been found. There are lots of treatments out there but unfortunately it is a bit 'hit and miss' until the right one is found. What medication is your Mum on at the moment? Does she see a rheumatologist?

I am Lyn, diagnosed with sero-negative RA 22 years ago. I've run the gamut of medication (just one spare at the moment for a rainy day!!) and several surgical procedures. I'm currently on Enbrel, Prednisolone, Naproxen and my bucket's topped up with a few other bits and pieces to keep me ticking over! I'm married with four children and we live in Thornton Cleveleys on the Fylde coast, Lancashire.

Do keep posting Tim, everyone is very friendly and there's loads of information available. Personal experiences can be so valuable when shared with others. Look forward to hearing from you,

Lyn x

P.S. Ann, what are you doing taking your 'hat off'? Obviously not listening to Eleanor's advice Tongue I will be after you with my new scissors ... hmm, let's see, which pattern will suit you best?

Yes, Tim we are quite mad at times, but the light hearted banter helps to keep us relatively sane Scared

Hi, many thanks for the kind and generous replies.

The "extreme ironing group" sounds intriguing ... although I´ve successfully managed to avoid any form of ironing for several years now !

I wish you all the best with your health and its great to see that it people keep their spirit and, most important, sense of humour.Smile

Hi Tim.

I am Jenni and am delighted to meet you and your mum, sorry to read about the RA. My Gran is 87 and she has RA, Im sorry to say she was 14 when she got it- but I know it can come as a shock at any age.

Nodules are a fact of life for me, I have a few on my hands these days.

By the way, I am 34, married with 3 children and a cat! I have had a bit of a roller coaster ride of it over the last few months particularly but with severe disease it kinda goes with the territory. I used to teach primary until about 3 yrs ago when I retired on ill health.

Would be great to get to know you and your mum on the forum
